A size-expansive world is an ever evolving one. It’s expansive not only in literal size but in the ways that we all consider fat bodies and varying abilities when building practices. It’s a world that can conceptualize many worlds and commits to improving access and quality of life for the most vulnerable in our communities. In all sectors, whether in education, healthcare, media or food security, size-expansive worlds would continuously confront & distrupt fatphobia and it’s inherent anti-Blackness.
What Is A Memory of Your Body Changing? Reflecting Back To That Time, What Would You Say To Yourself?
One of the memories that truly stands out in my mind is when I was younger in high school and someone in the hallway noticed that my body was getting bigger and pointed at my hips in front of everyone with a derogatory laugh. Not only was I more fleshy, my hips were widening, my breast were filling out rapidly and that attracted more criticism for years to come. Back then, I would tell myself to listen to my body and what it needs instead of hiding. I would say to create a relationship with my body before anyone else, because honestly it was ridden with so much sadness through the changes for so long that it needed love and affirmation.
