A size-expansive world, for me, would prioritize accessibility for fat bodies in every aspect of life. This would mean designing spaces with seats that accommodate all body sizes, creating inclusive clothing options, and ensuring healthcare is free from fatphobic rhetoric—so that we, as fat people, can live longer, healthier lives without stigma. Understanding that fatphobia is deeply rooted in anti-Blackness, a size-expansive world would also be one where Black people are free from systemic oppression and policing. Ultimately, it would mean a world of true freedom.
What Is A Memory of Your Body Changing? Reflecting Back To That Time, What Would You Say To Yourself?
For years, I avoided swimming or being immersed in water because I was too afraid to wear a bathing suit. It wasn't until 2020, after nearly a decade, that I finally allowed myself to go swimming again—a freedom I hadn’t felt since I was 13 years old. If I could speak to my younger self, I would say: "Water, and the way you feel when you're immersed in it, is deeply connected to your spiritual and artistic self. Don't let fear or insecurity take that away from you.
